About The Founder;

Gulsum Keskinoglu is a New York City-based artist and curator, born in 1989 in Afyonkarahisar, Turkey. She began her artistic journey at Isparta Anatolian Fine Art High School and earned a BA in Fine Arts, specializing in sculpture, from Mugla Faculty in Bodrum. She further honed her craft under the guidance of renowned ceramic artist Tevfik Turen Karagozoglu and held her first solo exhibition in Bodrum in 2015.

Deeply influenced by her Turkish heritage and her life in New York City, Gulsum’s work spans sculpture, ceramics, painting, and jewelry design. Her art often celebrates the female form, exploring themes of identity and empowerment, and has been exhibited internationally in cities such as Paris, Athens, Kyiv, and New York.

In May 2023, Gulsum achieved a significant milestone by founding Awita New York Studio in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The studio serves as a creative hub, showcasing art exhibitions and fostering collaborations within the artistic community. She also designs handmade jewelry under the Awita New York Design brand, creating unique pieces that reflect her artistic vision.

Beyond her own creations, Gulsum is a dedicated curator, organizing exhibitions and serving as a jury member for student showcases in Athens, Chios Island, and New York. She is currently developing Awita New York Art Magazine, an innovative platform to publish and promote artists’ work, continuing her mission to support and uplift the global art community.
